Stop Using Toxic Lip Gloss

In order to achieve maximum shine and longevity, many store-bought lipsticks are packed with chemicals.

Most lip gloss sold are loaded with ingredients like lead, mercury, arsenic, aluminum, chromium and cadmium, in addition to parabens and phthalates. These toxins are absorbed through our skin, and we continuously ingest them ourselves through licking our lips and drinks. Lip Gloss users also pass on the toxic chemicals to others when kissed.

Conventional lip glosses/ lipsticks may also contain chemical colorants, artificial flavors and adhesive agents that you do not want to be ingesting. Most cosmetic companies do not use Ecocertified minerals for achieving color.

Watch out for ingredients to avoid on the labels, these include:

  • Petrolatum

  • Phthalates

  • Butylated Compounds

  • Parabens

  • Urea

  • Phenoxyethanol Lake dyes

  • Propylene glycol

SAFE LIP GLOSS ALTERNATIVES:

  • Olive Oil

  • Coconut Oil

  • Mango Butter

  • Beeswax

DIY TOXIN FREE LIP GLOSS:

  • 4 tablespoons (59 mL) of grape-seed oil or olive oil.

  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of coconut oil.

  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of cocoa butter or shea butter.

  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) of cosmetic-grade beeswax.

  • 3 vitamin E capsules.

  • Essential oil (optional)

It is recommended to test your homemade lip-gloss on a small section of your forearm before applying to your lips and wait a day for any allergic reactions.
